Position Summary  

As a member of the professional staff, contributes general knowledge and skill in a discipline area (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) to support team and/or department objectives. Generally works under close supervision or within well-established guidelines to complete routine tasks. 

Specific Job Summary  

The Copywriter I writes relevant, interesting and persuasive copy and actively participates in the development of the corresponding creative concepts to effectively meet each internal client's communications objectives. Partners effectively with Internal Communications team managers to deliver accurate, timely, successful communications. Simultaneously manages multiple assigned projects through to completion and on time, keeping partners and leadership apprised of work and its progress. Ensures that copy deliverables meet the requirements of the business, customer and MVW brand and legal standards. 



Generic Expected Contributions 

  • Performs the following types of basic tasks: analysis, auditing, budgeting, forecasting, programming, research, report generation, and software integration.
  • Responds to, solves and makes decisions on standard/routine business requests with limited risk.
  • Responsible for own work and contributing to team, department and/or business results. May direct work of non-management staff.
  • Assists more senior associates in achieving business results by: 

- utilizing technical knowledge and skills to enhance business processes. 

- establishing priorities for self and, where appropriate, others. 

- allocating own time effectively to meet goals in a manner that does not disadvantage other associates or groups. 

- contributing to department/unit budget as appropriate (i.e., input, following guidelines, etc). 

  • Demonstrates an awareness of personal strengths and areas for improvement and acts independently to improve and increase skills and knowledge.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate.

Specific Expected Contributions 

  • Works with the team to develop creative concepts that meet internal communications objectives:
    • Interacts with the internal communications team and/or HR Business Partner to understand the client's marketing objectives and assist in the development of the communications strategy.
    • Executes campaigns with the team, incorporating customer input and business requirements, to provide options that will meet the communication strategy.
    • Translates the communications strategy into relevant, interesting and persuasive copy that works cohesively with the concepts in development.
    • Partners effectively with the Internal Communications team to deliver accurate, timely, successful communications.
    • When applicable, makes the Team Leader aware of incomplete input or any additional needs in order to create an effective communication solution
    • Manages multiple assigned projects through to completion and on time, keeping partners and leadership apprised of work and its progress.
    • Executes copy in a tone consistent with the established brand image, and ensures that copy deliverables meet the requirements of the business, customer and MVW brand and legal standards. 
  • Creates, rewrites, copyedits and proofreads copy for a variety of associate communications, from awareness campaigns through on-site collateral materials:
    • Writes online and offline communications
    • Writes materials to create excitement around company initiatives
    • Writes stories, photo captions and sidebars for newsletters for associates
    • Creates strong calls-to-action for internal communications
    • Assists team members in writing or copyediting key messages from executives
    • Creates documents in a PC environment 
  • Support Communications, Culture and Change Management event and program management
    • Help manage the internal communications calendar
    • Help manage and send emails from company mailboxes
    • Help manage distribution lists for specific groups
    • Sort through content/images provided to prep for newsletters
    • coordinate translations and reviews of the translation
    • help keep the team's projects/deliverables on course
    • support/ write company accolades
    • support a company-wide recognition program
    • help support comms for an Associate Referral Program 


Candidate Profile 

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Usually a professional position with general knowledge in a discipline (i.e., Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology). College degree and/or related experience typically required. 

Specific Candidate Profile 

Education 

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Marketing or relevant area of study preferred 

Experience

  • Minimum of three years professional copywriting experience, including PR, corporate communications, internal communications and e-communications.

Skills and Attributes

  • Natural ability to process incoming information from various forms and ask the questions necessary to logically complete the job
  • Shows an instantly recognizable skill for creating compelling messages, and possesses the ability to write compelling copy with minimal supervision

  • Has an eye for the visual solution; basic understanding of typography and how design, layout, and photography work with the copy in producing an effective communication

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, including use of tracking and other relevant functionality
