CLS Generic Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes general knowledge and skill in a discipline area (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) to support team and/or department objectives. Generally works under close supervision or within well-established guidelines to complete routine tasks. 

Specific Job Summary (describe the nature and purpose of the position)

Provide assistance and support to monitoring, controlling, and maintaining availability of all host systems for MVW. This is a shift-work position.



CLS Generic Expected Contributions

  • Performs the following types of basic tasks:  analysis, auditing, budgeting, forecasting, programming, research, report generation, and software integration.

Specific Expected Contributions (including duties and responsibilities)

  • Correctly follows documentation related to system checks and monitoring, batch job execution, tape rotation, problem resolution, and department communication.
  • Completes all Operational documentation (logs, forms, turnover document) within proper timeframe.
  • Resolves customer problems and documents efforts made related to technology being used by MVW.
  • Actions demonstrate an active interest in ensuring host system availability.
  • Shift work is required. Must be flexible with work schedule.
  • Provides first-level support for all client's requests for operational support issues.
  • Takes direction from department shift leader and supervisor/manager.
  • Updates, monitors, and maintains all logs and forms associated with work performed. This includes but is not limited to Siebel requests, turnover log, batch job log, and system monitoring forms.
  • Understands and can execute all shutdown and startup procedures for host computer systems.
  • Assumes responsibility for all host computer systems for duration of assigned shift.
  • Monitors and controls functioning of on-line host computers.
  • Assists in maintaining current process and procedure documentation.
  • Understands and uses escalation process.
  • Ensures proper room coverage is always available.
  • Supports and communicates established computer center security policies and practices.
  • Ensures working area is kept clean and free of clutter.
  • Responsible for ensuring tape rotation is adequately maintained.
  • Initiates and monitors host computer backups according to schedule and maintain a log of all tapes used.
  • Ensures peripheral devices are kept in a clean operating condition.
  • Maintains an adequate amount of supplies used by the systems and peripherals.
  • Ensure compliance with Technology Operations work instructions.
  • Must be a self-starter, well organized, and detail oriented.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and mature judgment.
  • Position requires ability to work effectively with others (team player).
  • Possesses general knowledge of computer equipment (NT, 2000, UNIX) and peripherals.
  • Demonstrates ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Possesses proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is a plus.
  • Completes special projects as assigned by Supervisor or IT Director.

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Usually a professional position with general knowledge in a discipline (i.e., Accounting, Human Resources, Information Resources).  College degree and/or related experience typically required.

Experience

  • 3-5 years customer service required.
  • 1-2 years System Operator Experience (NT, 2000, Unix) preferred.
  • 1-2 years Microsoft Office experience.
  • 1-2 years server and network monitoring experience.
