Position Summary 

As a member of the professional staff, contributes a high level of specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support department and/or function objectives. Generally works with considerable independence, developing operating plans and related operational processes for own department and monitoring the flow of work between own department and others in alignment with broader business objectives, selecting and developing effective managers and work teams, and managing own organization through reliable systems and processes.

Job Summary 

Responsible for innovating and delivering new ways of working, having a broad focus on the employee experience using Marriott Vacation Ownership's internal online tools, and applying user experience principles across the digital workplace. Partners with key stakeholders and leaders to define organization strategy, projects, and processes regarding the digital workplace. Partners with Planning & Technical teams to design, promote, and deliver innovative employee solutions using Office 365, SharePoint, Yammer, Teams, etc. This leadership role will stay current on trends and technology and provide guidance on overall digital workplace strategy, experience, and design. This leader defines the structure of our SharePoint platforms and maintains vision for use of Office 365 as a whole. Leads internal and external resources to develop and approve the business and functional requirements, translates the requirements into site organization and initial designs, and defines reasonable units of work to be executed upon.

Expected Contributions 

  • Develops operating plans and workable business processes for own department in alignment with function strategy.
  • Manages larger business processes and/or projects, setting priorities and measurable objectives, monitoring and reporting on the process, progress and results. Typically influences work of cross-functional or extended teams.
  • Responds to, solves and makes decisions on business requests that have broader department impact and/or moderate risk. Presents alternative solutions to business issues by leveraging the broader organization.
  • Works to enhance the organization's capabilities through effective staffing and development of others by: 

- anticipating staffing requirements by comparing business needs with strengths and weaknesses of existing staff. 

- using appropriate MVW interviewing tools to hire the best managers available from inside or outside.

  • Assists more senior associates in achieving business results by:

Specific Expected Contributions 

  • Responsible for leading organization strategy, projects and processes for digital workplace. Supports creation & maintenance of the Digital Workplace Roadmap for the enterprise, and contributes directly to related governance efforts.
  • Improves processes in support of strategic imperatives and increases standardization of key processes.
  • Gathers requirements from multiple sources, obtains and coordinates appropriate approvals, and partners with internal and external partners to execute strategic initiatives.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing business processes and ensuring teams can execute according to guidelines provided.
  • Supports communication and education efforts to increase awareness and adoption of digital workplace platforms and services.
  • Leads individuals that support the product and content strategy for O365 (SharePoint/Online, Yammer, Teams, etc.).
  • Leads through influence and collaboration across functions, departments and geographic boundaries.
  • Manages and oversees all aspects of Digital Workplace systems including strategy, UI design, release planning, and support.
  • Vendor relationship management with Microsoft and other third-parties that support our digital workplace environment. Nurture partnership with Microsoft and other vendors to meet business objectives, overcome challenges, and manage the rapidly evolving features being made available.

Candidate Profile 

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Generally a professional position requiring significant knowledge and experience in one or more disciplines and/or business operations as well as associate management experience. College degree and/or relevant experience generally required.


  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant area preferred (Business Management/Leadership, IT, User Experience, Human Computer Interaction, Digital Marketing, Information Architecture, etc.). Relevant experience will be considered.
  • Microsoft Certifications in the Microsoft technologies highly preferred for this position
  • Advanced courses and/or professional certifications in communication, leadership, strategy, and/or project management a plus.


  • Significant experience defining strategy and roadmap for an enterprise intranet portal and collaboration platform is required.
  • Expert level experience with Microsoft Office 365 (O365) services required, including SharePoint Online. Experience with other enterprise SaaS productivity applications (e.g. content management systems, digital asset management systems, customer relationship management systems, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience presenting proposals to senior management to gain buy-in and encourage specific actions or strategies is required. Experience developing team vision and strategies and gaining buy-in from team members.
  • Applied understanding of User Experience Architecture, User-Centered Design Analysis and web/application design. Good understanding front to back of a company's operational flow.
  • 5+ years of business management/leadership experience, including direct supervisory experience and experience mentoring and developing technical and/or design professionals.
  • 5+ years managing employee facing web solutions, intranet portal, SharePoint Online, or collaboration platform team at a large company.
  • Experience managing complex SharePoint Migrations is desirable.
  • Experience with the modern digital workplace (global intranet) and design thinking.


  • Proven leadership skills plus excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer relationship management, presentation, and consulting skills.
  • Demonstrated project management and team organization skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and work with numerous teams at all levels, including senior level and executive leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new hardware/software systems independently and adapt to a changing technical environment.
  • Expert in Collaboration technologies such as SharePoint 2016 and Office 365 SharePoint Online. High-Level of understanding of Microsoft's Productivity Software -- Teams, Yammer, OneDrive, etc. High-level applied knowledge of PowerShell.
  • Ability and willingness to take direction from IT and business leaders.
  • Familiar with the full software development lifecycle.
  • Familiar with HTML, DHTML, XML, Cascading Style Sheets, and JavaScript
  • Familiar with web 2.0 technologies (AJAX, Web Services, etc.) and mobile technologies
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat, Microsoft Office products including Project and Visio, text-editor and Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash a plus
