POSITION SUMMARY


The Paralegal position is in the Law Department’s EUME team based in London and has a primary focus on supporting day to day operations in the various resorts and internal business teams associated with owner services, operations and association governance.  This position involves extensive MVCI standard form contract review and preparation, legal research, preparation of memoranda, summaries, matrices with daily contact and interaction with business clients at corporate offices and on-site.  The paralegal works under moderate supervision of the Regional Counsel for most matters but will be able to manage the operations contracting process largely unsupervised, identifying and escalating irregular issues.  


CORE WORK ACTIVITIES


Legal Skills and Responsibilities 

•    Liaise with Regional Counsel to determine ongoing legal needs of the regional office.
•    Draft legal documents based on precedents, including contracts, POAs, board minutes etc.  
•    Draft legal correspondence, documents and memoranda for attorney review; once reviewed, revise, distribute, and transmit legal correspondence, documents and memoranda.
•    Conduct legal research in project documents, statutory law and other sources as required for support of multiple properties in a variety of jurisdictions. Able to present results in writing for review by attorney prior to distribution. 
•    Review sales and marketing collateral to ensure compliance with local laws.
•    Receive enquiries or requests for legal support from various business areas, with a focus on resort operations and ensure the answer or the document is properly delivered in a timely and efficient manner under the supervision and guidance of the Regional Counsel.
•    Review complex legal documents (e.g. court rulings and outside counsel legal advice) and summarize.  

Business Knowledge

•    Understand MVWC’s business areas.
•    Understand the Law Department’s business strategies and his/her role in achieving these.
•    Maintain a working knowledge of all MVWC product lines.

Administrative Support

•    Some administrative support to Regional Counsel.
•    Creation of documents (e.g. faxes, letters memos, contracts, presentations etc.) using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
•    Organize and maintain the London Law Department’s filing and tracking systems. Utilize own judgement in establishing items for tracking/brought forward for action.

•    Liaise with outside organizations in multiple jurisdictions, including (a) outside local counsel; (b) local consultants; (c) government agencies, (d) translation firms and (e) notaries and registries on both substantive legal matters and administrative items such as requesting services, monitoring the timely receipt of the service requested, and settling fees and costs under supervision and guidance of Regional Counsel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education    

•    Minimum undergraduate degree or equivalent 
•    Legal academic background preferred, especially in Spanish law

Related Work Experience  

•    Relevant work experience in a previous paralegal (or equivalent) role
•    English and Spanish language essential
