Job Summary

As a member of the AAH finance team, the Area Director of Finance will provide financial support to properties in a Director of Finance capacity while also being responsible for the oversight of other Directors of Finance as well as oversight and the Operational Finance support team.   

Expected Contributions

  • Supervise all accounting functions for the assigned hotels, currently expected to be on Oahu and the Big Island but subject to change based on business needs.  Including the oversight of one Director of Finance supporting other Oahu properties.
  • Oversee the preparation of the financial statements working with Accenture, the outsourced service provider, in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the Uniform System of Accounts and other documents as needed for the owner reporting package.
  • Responsible for the management and oversight of the Operational Finance support team which includes responsibilities for the accurate and timely filing of condo owner tax returns, maintenance of owner records in Owner Relations system and other support services provided to the Directors of Finance.
  • Prepare and/or review accurate monthly forecasts and cash flow statements to ensure that owners, and the General Manager are provided clear information about the achievability and reasonableness of the forecasts and budgets.
  • Analyze and interpret financial results to assist and advise the General Managers, VP of Operations and other team members in an effort to drive strategic business decisions, including the analysis of payroll costs.
  • In coordination with Accenture maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations with full supporting detail.  Perform periodic detailed reviews of balance sheet accounts for all properties that are overseen.
  • Ensure compliance with management and franchise agreement and other legal documents and corresponding financial impact.
  • Ensure the timely accurate preparation of sales, and occupancy tax returns including those filed on behalf of condo owners.
  • Mentors and works collaboratively with department heads at the hotels and at team headquarters regarding financial statements, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Ensure treasury management controls are in place and monitored to secure company assets.
  • Ensure that all financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and other information required by the company are accurately compiled and submitted within the specified time limits, identifying variances, and making recommendations for improvements as appropriate.
  • Prepare annual budget in connection with the property management teams for both properties directly under your responsibility, as well as oversee other Oahu Director of Finance’s preparation of their property budgets.
  • Ensure all legal, treasury, and tax documentation is properly maintained and secured, and that all statutory and fiscal reporting requirements are satisfied, which includes any governmental requirements for permits and licenses.
  • Ensure adequate controls are installed and maintained for the protection of the properties’ assets against loss or misappropriation.

Candidate Profile:



Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required.




Experience

  • Seven plus years of practical accounting experience in the hospitality industry including experience at a full-service hotel.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft or similar accounting package is preferred.
  • Comfortable with multiple systems and interfaces. Working knowledge of property management systems and Point of Sale outlet systems.
  • Experience with Opera a plus.

  • Able to communicate through written or verbal communication effectively and professional with all stakeholders, including guests, owners, fellow managers, employees, and vendors and to diplomatically handle difficult situations as they arise.
  • Ability to work under time pressures.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills both internally and externally.
  • Excel proficiency required.

Expected Salary Range: $100,000-132,000 plus bonus.
