Position Summary 

As a member of the professional staff, contributes general knowledge and skill in a discipline area to support team and/or department objectives. Generally works under close supervision or within well-established guidelines to complete routine tasks. 

Specific Job Summary  

The Tax Accountant is responsible for supporting the Tax Managers and Directors with tax reporting and tax compliance processes for Marriott Vacations Worldwide Corporation's (MVWC) Mex. tax reporting requirements. The Tax Accountant  prepares financial and tax information,  tax provision related to domestic operations, reviews domestic income tax returns and tracks tax return compliance. Gathers required financial information and provides to Mexico tax advisors as part of annual Mexico tax return compliance process and reviews Mexico tax.

Expected Contributions 

  • Performs the following types of basic tasks: analysis, auditing, budgeting, forecasting, programming, research, report generation, and software integration.

- utilizing technical knowledge and skills to enhance business processes.

- contributing to department/unit budget as appropriate (i.e., input, following guidelines, etc). 

  • Demonstrates an awareness of personal strengths and areas for improvement and acts independently to improve and increase skills and knowledge.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate. 

Specific Expected Contributions  

  • Manages completion of tax return filings and reviews tax returns to ensure completeness and accuracy. Reviews book tax reconciliations for tax returns and prepares return-to-provision true-up adjustments.
  • Prepares and reviews foreign entity information needed to complete Mexico income tax return.
  • Prepares schedules and calculations to support the quarterly tax provision process
  • Prepares estimated tax and extension payments.
  • Researches and documents tax issues and processes.
  • Assist with responses in support of the tax audits in various jurisdictions
  • Performs various General Ledger queries to gather information required by tax advisors, such as trial balances, P&L, B/S, etc.
  • Maintains reporting scorecard of the status of tax filing of all MVW entities.
  • May review work prepared by administrative assistant or tax analyst.
  • Assistance with research in special projects as needed. 

Specific Candidate Profile

Education

  • Bachelor of Finance, Accounting or in a related discipline or equivalent work experience
  • CPA or Master of Taxation preferred 

Experience 

  • At least three (3) years of corporate income tax experience with similar size organizations
  • Public or corporate environment experience
  • Strong Excel skills; ability to create large workbooks and create formulas, macros, pivot tables
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in PC based applications including Excel and MS Word.
  • Domestic income tax (compliance & provision) OR International tax experience desired
  • Strong communication skills (oral, written, one-on-one, group).
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task, be adaptable and successfully work in dynamic work environment with varying managers and leadership styles
  • Ability to work extended hours, especially during Mexico tax compliance season, as well as quarterly and year- end tax provision timeline to ensure all assigned work is completed timely and accurately.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
