Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Resources, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support team and/or department business objectives. Generally works under limited supervision, but within established guidelines, producing and analyzing more complex business information to assist in the decision making process.

Job Summary

As a member of the Enterprise Reporting team, the Senior Report Analyst is responsible for the development and maintenance of MVCI's Enterprise Data Warehouse and MVCI application reports. This position will interact with multiple disciplines of the business including, but not limited to Finance & Accounting, Marketing & Sales, and iPSM (Revenue Management) to ensure reporting needs are meet. Primary responsibilities include development of enterprise reports in Cognos Suite of Tools. Additional duties include data analysis, design, troubleshooting, bug analysis, research, testing and documentation. Other responsibilities include migration control, change request and processes documentation.

  • Performs more complex quantitative and qualitative analysis for business processes and/or projects. Often manages small projects, business processes or parts of larger ones.
  • Responds to, solves and makes decisions on more complex/non-routine business requests with limited to moderate risk.

  • Assists more senior associates in achieving business results by:

- identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of business processes.

- providing training and technical guidance to less senior staff, where appropriate, and serving as point-of-contact for problem resolution.

- participating in setting department operating plans.

- recognizing and celebrating team successes.

- achieving results against budget within scope of responsibility.

  • Demonstrates an awareness of personal strengths and areas for improvement and acts independently to improve and increase skills and knowledge.

Specific Expected Contributions

-- Responsible for working with the business to gather requirements using a standard and efficient template and methodology.

-- Responsible for data analysis, designing, developing and testing reports in Cognos for the various disciplines within organizations in accordance with standard team processes.

-- Responsible for test plans for new data integration and application reporting projects.

-- Drives efficient and effective internal and customer interfacing reporting processes.

-- Constantly seeks process improvement opportunities and applies Lean Sigma practices to those opportunities.

-- Assist in the organization of the MVCI reporting inventory. Document existing reports, including audience, frequency and report information into SQL Server database. Identify redundant reporting and opportunities for consolidation.

-- Works with IR on resolve technical and performance issues related to Cognos.

-- Works with IR to resolve reporting issues and participate in system testing for patches and fixes for reporting systems.

-- Must have an understanding of relational databases. Will utilize Oracle SQL and SQL Server to analyze data.

-- Utilize available tools to run, update and build SQL reports and scripts.

-- Develop, coordinate, and deliver report training materials for the end user. Maintain documentation, manuals and user information.

-- Participate in the team monitor rotation. Monitor the Infra queue for domestic and international reporting needs. Address issues and utilize team expertise for additional support.

-- Must be proficient in the Cognos Report Studio development.

-- Takes ownerships, organizes appropriate party interaction and facilitates resolution of reporting issues.

-- Responsible to development of customer communications for reporting statuses and issues.

-- Performs analysis and design for business processes and/or projects for reporting needs.

-- Must have proven project management experience and posses a strong sense of responsibility.

-- May be required to coordinate with Project and Release Management for the deployment of reporting into test or production.

-- Possesses the ability to analyze business process changes and utilize technology to perform complex data analysis.

-- May be required to coordinate with Project Management and test during integration and system test.

-- Responsible for own work and contributing to team, department and/or business results.

-- Demonstrate the ability to learn complex business processes and share experience and knowledge with the business and other team members. Participate in formal and ad hoc training as necessary.

-- Performs other duties as appropriate.

Candidate Profile

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Generally a professional position with specific knowledge in a discipline (e.g., Accounting, Human Resources, Information Resources). College degree and/or relevant experience typically required.


-- BS/BA or equivalent work experience

-- 5 years relevant work experience

-- 5 years of business analysis experience

-- 3 years of report development experience

-- Proven ability to work professionally and progressively in a matrix organization

-- Proven business process design and development skills

-- Proven analytical skills

-- Proven customer service orientation and excellent communication skills

-- Proven ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment

-- Ability and initiative to learn new technologies

Technical Skills

- All Microsoft Office (Including Project & Visio)

- SQL experience (Oracle and/or SQL Server)

- Report Development experience (Cognos Report Studio preferred)

- Sales & Marketing system experience (a plus)

- VBA (a plus)
