Job Description


Reporting to the DOF-Controllership, the Senior Finance Manager's role is one of a strategic business partner to associates of all levels by providing leadership, supervision and development opportunities to the team.

In performing the duties, legal regulations, GAAP as well as operating procedures of Marriott Vacations Worldwide must be complied with. The focus is to lead a team in controllership functions across the full spectrum of business lines, in particular leading and managing the month-end close process and balance sheet management process under a strong internal control environment. Additionally, this role is responsible for managing all statutory/compliance reporting under his/her responsibility area.


Finance and Accounting

Month-end Close and Balance Sheet Management

  • Manage the month-end close process.
    • Review and ensure journal entries are prepared timely and accurately.
    • Ensure all balance sheet reconciliations are completed in a timely manner with proper supporting and documentation.
    • Ensure balance sheet reconciling items are researched and cleared within the next period.
    • Develop a sound understanding of all balance sheet accounts under his/her responsibility area and be able to link fluctuations to business operations.
    • Constantly seek process improvements and drive through changes.
    • Provide appropriate support and back up to other Controllership teams as the business requires.

Cash Management

  • Manage cashflow forecast requirements.
  • Coordinate funding requirements with Corporate Treasury and other Controllership teams to ensure optimal use of cash.
  • Support bank management for APAC entities (update/open/close/signatories, etc.)


  • Ensure timely settlement of inter-company balances including paper settlement.
  • Ensure inter-company balances are reconciled every period and confirm that all inter-company billings are well supported before periodic settlement (including paper settlement).
  • Develop a sound understanding of inter-company balances, and business activities that drive fluctuations and movements.

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the accounting system and tools to maximize team productivity.
  • Review and approve Accounts Payable transactions.


  • Oversee APAC's internal controls and compliance.
  • Review and update SOX process flows.
  • Manage quarterly MVWP-66 balance sheet certification for the region.
  • Develop and update SOPs on key processes.
  • Effectively manage all internal audits.

Statutory/Compliance Reporting

  • Manage completion of statutory audits, tax filings and other compliance matters for assigned entities within timeline.
    • Ensure clear reconciliation and documentation between US GAAP and Local GAAP accounts.
    • Assist with assessment on impact of new accounting standards on local statutory report (e.g. Revenue Recognition, Lease Accounting, etc.)
    • Ensure GST and WHT are filed timely and accurately.
    • Work with Global Tax team on Corporate Tax filing, tax reporting pack and transfer pricing studies.

Associate Development

  • Provide meaningful guidance to team members to assist them in properly executing their assigned duties.
  • Develop team members by, among other things, regularly sharing best practices, technical knowledge and business concepts.
  • Provide regular constructive feedback in an engaging manner.
  • Leveraging the unique strengths of each associate, bringing out the best in the team.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Gain a good understanding of the business and MVW processes in order to provide good support to business partners.
  • Perform analysis on an ad hoc basis as required by the business.
  • It is foreseeable that this role could take on more duties as the company grows, in financial analysis or general accounting.
  • Inform and/or update business and process leaders, peers and subordinates on relevant information in a timely manner.
  • Support Development and A&C teams for all development projects, including ensuring timely settlement of progress billings and project payments.
  • Understand and be proficient in new business structures (e.g. AP New Product Form, Indonesia transactions, IAPs, etc.) necessary to carry out the team's accountabilities effectively.
  • Ensure accurate recording and tracking of project related costs and support business decisions through analysis of project costs and information.
  • Listens and responds to associate's needs.

  • Set team objectives and action plans, strategically aligned with company/department objectives.
  • Provide strong support to organizational and business growth by properly planning assignments and allocating resources appropriately.

Specific Candidate Profile

Key experience, skills and attributes for this role:

  • Degree in Accountancy, CPA preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant working experience, preferably with 3 years' audit experience in a Big 4.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in supervising and managing teams.
  • Solid accounting background, including GL, AP and AR.
  • Experience with balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Technically strong accountant with good commercial acumen.
  • Experienced operating in a complex, fast-pace and rapidly changing environment. Must be able to work with a strong sense of urgency, both as an individual contributor and as a team leader.
  • Excited by the opportunity of designing and building scalable processes.
  • Experience with US MNC and US GAAP preferred.
  • Previous experience in regional role preferred.
  • Proficient in ERP systems and MS applications (Excel etc.).
  • Able to build and maintain excellent rapport with all levels of associates.
  • A team player with ability to collaborate with senior management, functional departments and external partners.
