The MVW Law Department provides legal support and legal services to all aspects of the Company's business.

The associate in this position will be a member of the Law Department's Litigation & Compliance practice group. This position supports one or more attorneys, managers and paralegals in the practice group. This position performs various legal administrative and secretarial functions in support of enhancing attorney and paralegal efficiency and effectiveness and achieving the Law Department's objectives.


Excellent employment record. Ability to utilize advanced complex functions such as tables, charts, merges, macros, formulas and graphics in one or more software packages specifically designed for preparation of a large volume of lengthy legal documents (e.g., litigation documents, contracts, agreements, registration documents, and drafts and revisions of the foregoing, etc.); extensive skills in editing, red-lining, grammar, proof-reading, preparing and editing presentations, e-mail and calendaring systems; knowledge of legal terminology and familiarity with a variety of legal documents; some knowledge of legal spreadsheet and graphics software packages. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. May be a resource to others for software training and troubleshooting complex applications.


Functional Knowledge

  • Possess a complete working knowledge of the administrative processes associated with the Law Department, i.e., policies & procedures, mail handling, legal filing system, researching legal files, etc.
  • Serve as a recognized resource in those areas. Specific administrative or secretarial experience with the legal support of commercial, timeshare and consumer related litigationis preferred but not required.

Written Communication:

  • Produce non-routine legal correspondence and/or complex documents composed by others.

Verbal Communication:

  • Answer Law Department telephones, respond to calls where the request or information needed is unique, not clearly identified, or legal in nature, or refer caller to appropriate staff. Handle follow-up on non-sensitive or sensitive legal information with minimal assistance. Perform research to address issues and less complex questions and respond directly to the caller.


  • Work is generally varied and may include legal projects. Position requires the evaluation of alternatives and development of solutions. Decisions may have departmental impact and limited financial exposure. Work may involve handling confidential and sensitive legal documents under minimal supervision.

Research and Analysis

  • Research moderately complex problems, issues and questions. Research legal files to locate documents or sections of documents or to extract information needed by an attorney, manager or paralegal. Edit for grammar, punctuation and format.
  • May assist in reconciling outside attorney invoices, which involves research and follow-up on unusual items.

Prioritizing Workload

  • Work independently to prioritize own workload.
  • Work with supervisor to determine how workload and projects should be prioritized when there is significant variation in daily workload requiring constant prioritization of current and new assignments

Level of Independence

  • Work is reviewed on a periodic basis, usually upon completion of assignment. Supervisor sets general parameters for work to be done independently to prioritize own workload.

Administrative Processing

  • Process data through automated administrative systems including problem resolution and account reconciliation.
  • Prepare expense reports and schedule appointments and meetings and make travel arrangements for Law Department personnel, evaluating alternatives and making decisions regarding pricing and logistical issues.
