CLS Generic Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes a high level of specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Resources, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support department and/or function objectives. Generally, works under the direction of the department’s director, but with considerable independence, developing execution plans including leading other team members in alignment with the department objectives. 

Specific Job Summary

Primary Objective:

This position performs a technical and team lead role for customer facing web applications and related integration technologies.   This position applies technologies, procedures, methodologies, quality and security standards, which are in alignment with the enterprise architecture.  This position works closely with all team members to ensure solutions are delivered in accordance with our company’s standards and quality expectations.  This position functions as a technical expert on assignments, leads and participates in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various applications / technologies.  This position breaks down delivery objectives into actionable items, assigns them to other team members and subsequently guides said team members through the implementation while also contributing through the solution. Mentors junior developers and shares knowledge with team members to ensure a well-trained and qualified staff.

Scope:

  • No direct reports.
  • Influences and consults with senior leadership and project teams.
  • Develops and implements software designs to solve business problems and produce high quality architecture artifacts with attention to detail
  • Provides input/expertise for project estimation, work plan development and staffing
  • Assigns actionable units of work to other team members and monitors progress
  • Trains/mentors development and delivery resources
  • Provides guidance for software quality and development processes and procedures to other team members.
  • Implements standards that are consistent with the company direction.
  • Provides advanced support (level 4) during production incidents if needed to reduce the outage and trains other staff on troubleshooting and incident resolution.
  • Provides technical feedback during projects to avoid issues in the future and continuously improve software delivery.
  • Provides technical support (when needed) inside of existing development teams to fill gaps in leadership, increase quality, or increase productivity as needed. 
  • Provides technical leadership on projects and new development efforts.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and implement software designs to solve business problems and produce high quality architecture artifacts with attention to detail
  • Provides input/expertise for project estimation, work plan development and staffing
  • Lead development and planning discussions, break down requirements into actionable units of work and assign to other team members
  • Mentor junior developers on design patterns, development best practices and DevOps trade-offs
  • Implement and contribute to engineering practices and processes
  • Understand, create, and maintain complex data structures that drive dynamic applications
  • Responsible for technical software development, troubleshooting and performance tuning in an agile development environment
  • Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers and junior developers
  • Continuously keeps up-to-date with new technology and IT processes
  • Contributes to MVW Best Practices Library by creating or enhancing standards
  • Contributes to enhancing DevOps capabilities
  • Performs and/or oversees and administers code reviews
  • Provides advanced support (level 4) and troubleshooting for production incidents with applications teams and recommends solutions to avoid future incidents.

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Generally a professional position requiring significant knowledge and experience in one or more disciplines and/or business operations as well as associate and/or organizational management experience.  College degree and/or relevant experience generally required.

Specific Candidate Profile

Core Competencies:

  • Understanding of our products, customers, functions and relationship to technology

  • Technical specialization in web front and back end development (Java preferred), integration (Mulesoft, others) and integration patterns

     Qualifications:

Education:  BS/BA degree (computer sciences, information systems preferred) technical certification, or equivalent experience

Experience:  8+ years full SDLC experience (includes application architecture)

Technologies:  Below is a list of relevant technologies. Expertise in all in not required but a broad understanding of the following technologies would be required to fulfill the job requirements.

  • Highly experienced in designing, developing server-side enterprise applications using Spring, Spring Boot, Java EE/SE, Hibernate, JMS, XML, Gradle, Maven, AWS, GIT, Jenkins, and similar technologies
  • Experience using HTML5, CSS3 and frameworks like Bootstrap, CSS Pre/Post processors, and build tools (Webpack, Gulp)
  • Strong working knowledge of front-end JavaScript and modern libraries, ideally React.js
  • Experience in the following is a plus: Mulesoft, Microservices, Apache, NGINX, Docker, Jahia CMS
  • Strong emphasis on delivering simple, readable, traceable, maintainable and performant code using, application of patterns and data structures as appropriate to the application
  • Solid understanding of transaction management (both local and XA), thread safety and thread management, database design and query optimization
  • Strong understanding of core networking concepts (DNS, IP, SSL/HTTPS, etc.)
  • Competencies in various technologies including Solid understanding of Service Oriented Architecture including experience with developing Web Services (REST & SOAP) on an ESB platform
  • Solid understanding and experience of waterfall and agile methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience integrating systems in multi-user, multi-platform environments
  • Ability to analyze, absorb, advocate, and apply rapidly changing technologies and apply them as part of integrated solutions to business requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a high level of peer trust and confidence.
  • Experience with common SDLC tools (GlassFish, Gradle, Maven, Nexus, Jenkins etc.)
  • Experience operating in a DevOps Model
