Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes a high level of specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Tax, Information Resources, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support department and/or function objectives. Generally, works with considerable independence, developing operating plans and related operational processes for own department in alignment with broader business objectives. Responsible for selection, supervision and development of staff in accordance with company policies and procedures.



Specific Job Summary

The Tax Director, Tax Accounting is responsible for preparation and review of workpapers for the quarterly and annual financial statement reporting of tax provision for worldwide subsidiaries under the principals of US GAAP, including ASC 740, FIN 18, and FIN 48. Assist the VP, Global Tax with all aspects of tax provision including development, coaching and management of the provision team as well as reviewing material workpapers and schedules prepared by the team.

  • Responds to, solves and makes decisions on business requests that have jurisdictional impact and/or moderate risk. Presents alternative solutions to business issues by leveraging the broader organization.
  • Works to enhance the tax groups capabilities through effective staffing and development of others by:

- anticipating staffing requirements by comparing business needs with strengths and weaknesses of existing staff.

- coaching team to collaborate with others.

- using appropriate MVWC interviewing tools to hire the best people available from inside or outside.

- establishing goals and delegating tasks appropriately.

- providing timely coaching and feedback

- making and rewarding distinctions in performance.

- engaging in progressive disciplinary processes, when appropriate.

Specific Expected Contributions

  • Coordinates the formulation and documentation of tax accounting position statements aligned with overall tax strategies of MVW.
  • Reviews and maintains tax rates for planning and reporting and identifies opportunities to reduce the overall effective tax rate and cash tax rate.
  • Reviews and maintains a tax reporting process including the maintenance of internal controls pursuant to SOX 404, the reconciliation of tax accounts, and the implementation of tax workbooks and tax reporting packages.
  • Liaise with financial planning team to calculate the effective tax rates for forecasts, budgets and long-range plan.
  • Maintains all global deferred tax assets for realization and support positions taken with respect to valuation allowances against those assets.
  • Reviews tax accounting workpapers and schedules for accuracy and completeness.
  • A primary contact for auditors in relation to income tax accounting and controls matters.
  • Provides input, guidance, and expertise as needed to forecasting and budgetary activities.
  • Develop and support the implementation of the of process improvements for the department.

Management

  • Manages team of tax professionals to meet quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements.
  • Maintains strong relationships with F&A leaders including SEC Reporting and Financial Planning.
  • Manages and ensures compliance with the calendar for financial reporting compliance including coordination of the U.S and International tax compliance teams.
  • Attracts, retains, manages, develops and motivates tax team members by providing leadership, guidance, and counseling as appropriate.
  • Engage and manage third-party advisors as necessary.



Candidate Profile

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Generally, a professional position requiring significant knowledge and experience in one or more disciplines and/or business operations and associate management. College degree and/or relevant experience generally required.

Specific Candidate Profile

Education

  • Bachelor of Finance, Accounting or in a related discipline or equivalent work experience
  • CPA and Master of Taxation preferred.

Experience

  • Ten plus years of corporate tax experience with similar size organizations with a minimum of five years' experience with tax provision.
  • Experience leading and managing large scale initiatives.
  • Three plus years in a supervisory role with demonstrated success leading and developing a functional team in a complex, service-intensive, and deadline-driven environment.
  • Proven history of consistently delivering results.
  • Timeshare, real estate development, or hospitality experience preferred.
