Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes a high level of specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Resources, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support department and/or function objectives. Generally works with considerable independence, developing operating plans and related operational processes for own department in alignment with broader business objectives. Responsible for selection, supervision and development of staff in accordance with company policies and procedures.


Specific Job Summary

The Director, Business Initiative Management has responsibility for maintaining an enterprise view of cross-process Initiatives and facilitating the appropriate Initiative management and governance of that work for the Business Initiative Management Office. This encompasses all of the processes required to successfully plan and deliver Initiatives and Projects including demand planning, budgeting, resource management, requirements management, risk management, project cost estimation and management, project schedule estimation and management, project communication and reporting, vendor delivery management, quality assurance and benefits realization.

This position has responsibility for day-to-day aspects of Initiative Delivery including, program level planning, execution and delivery of cross-process improvements along with the utilization of tools and techniques to achieve stated business objectives including but not limited to cost savings, revenue enhancement, product line expansion, and channel optimization.

The Director, Business Initiative Management is required to have a broad, systemic understanding of all operating and financial aspects of the Initiative Delivery, including financial performance, customer satisfaction, associate engagement and inventory availability for sale and use. This position will also track, measure, monitor reports and drive performance across processes within MVW (including Marketing Sales & Service, Resort Operations, Product Supply Management, Development, Feasibility, and the enabling processes) and with external parties to ensure Initiatives achieve their stated objectives

Expected Contributions

  • Develops operating plans and workable business processes for own department in alignment with function strategy.
  • Manages larger business processes and/or projects, setting priorities and measurable objectives, monitoring and reporting on the process, progress and results. Typically influences work of cross-functional or extended teams.

Specific Expected Contributions

  • Provides support to the VP Business Initiative Management in creating plans for Initiatives required to drive success for MVW
  • Works with the VP Business Initiative Management to establish key Initiative performance metrics.
  • Establish processes to manage Initiatives from ideation through deployment
  • Support cross-process teams that channel product innovations from ideas through development and into the business.
  • Monitor project plan performance to ensure early identification and resolution of risks and issues.
  • Works with the VP Business Initiative Management and MVW's internal communications team develop communication vehicles that keep leadership and associates informed on progress toward objectives, and solicit feedback on performance.
  • Prepares regular Product Enhancement and Delivery updates for management.
  • Ensures Traceability from Technology Request to Business Requirements.
  • Provides day-to-day support to the business and technology change request process.
  • Supports the delivery of business Initiatives to the field and corporate process areas, including assisting with process definition work and documentation


  • Delivers results through planning, tracking, measuring, monitoring and reporting on the performance of cross-process teams and working with and through internal and external constituencies.
  • Early identification of Initiative and Project opportunities and challenges; lead internal teams to resolve issues and leverage opportunities to optimize performance.
  • Timely identification and communication of potential changes of project plan.
  • Integrates approved changes into Initiative and Project plans to enhance financial results.
  • Manages the delivery of on-going Product and Service enhancements to deepen guest loyalty, build competitive advantage, and drive profitable growth.
  • Strong working relationships established with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensures Initiative and Project best practices are captured, analyzed and interpreted as part of the innovation and product and service development process

Candidate Profile

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Generally a professional position requiring significant knowledge and experience in one or more disciplines and/or business operations and associate management. College degree and/or relevant experience generally required.

Specific Candidate Profile

  • Experience within Marriott International or MVW preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years project management experience with strong knowledge of project management, product development, product delivery, and technology design and implementation, preferred.
  • Strong leadership, management, and communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated business and financial acumen with proven analytical skills and an understanding of financial analysis.
  • Collaborative, inclusive predisposition toward problem solving.
  • Senior level, executive presence.
  • Ability to conduct successful, senior-level business discussions in a variety of cultures.
  • Strong project management skills; ability to integrate and balance priorities, work resources and activities for the benefit of multiple key stakeholders.
  • History of consistently delivering business results.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10%-20%
