Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes a high level of specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support department and/or function objectives. Generally works with considerable independence, developing operating plans and related operational processes for own department and monitoring the flow of work between own department and others in alignment with broader business objectives, selecting and developing effective managers and work teams, and managing own organization through reliable systems and processes.

Specific Job Summary

Responsible for the technical design, delivery, security and support of Marriott Vacation Ownership's customer facing branded mobile applications. Takes direction from key stakeholders, business management and technology leadership to execute on the mobile application's roadmap. Deconstructs the roadmap into concrete mobile development projects and work streams and defines the execution strategy for implementation. Partners with senior IT leadership, project planning and management, quality assurance, security and other technical teams to manage needed dependencies and integrations. Shapes the requirements on backend systems and API's which power the mobile experience and works in conjunction with other technology teams to enable the required integrations. Leads internal and external mobile development resources in the implementation. Guides the mobile developers on the technical implementation details by staying current and active on mobile development skills and technology trends. Consults on the overall mobile application strategy, experience, and design from a technical feasibility perspective.

Specific Expected Contributions

  • Leads the mobile application development team with internal and external development resources

  • Provides the technical leadership and guidance to the development resources for iOS and Android

  • Oversees all aspects of mobile application development including UI/UX implementation, integrations with internal backends and external 3rd party systems, release planning, security scans and support

  • Partners with Mobile Product Owners and Production Managers in the execution

  • Injects technical and security requirements into the functional requirements

  • Implements mobile development processes.

  • Performs code and security reviews complying with applicable standards

  • Analyze resource needs and develop resource plan

  • Ensures that the mobile team has the needed tools to execute

  • Supports communication and education efforts to servicing teams to enable them to assist users

  • Coordinates with other internal teams and external partners to execute mobile application initiatives

  • Obtains and coordinates appropriate approvals

  • Supports the creation and maintenance of the mobile application roadmap for the enterprise

  • Manage the technical aspects of vendor relationships with Apple, Google, Amazon and other third-parties that power our mobile applications

  • Performs other duties as appropriate

Candidate Profile

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Generally a professional position requiring significant knowledge and experience in one or more disciplines and/or business operations as well as associate management experience. College degree and/or relevant experience generally required.

Specific Candidate Profile


  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant area preferred (Computer Science, IT, User Experience, Human Computer Interaction, Digital Marketing, Information Architecture, etc.). Relevant experience will be considered.

  • Advanced courses and/or professional certifications in mobile software development, communication, leadership, strategy, and/or project management a plus.


  • 5+ years of recent Hands-on experience developing consumer facing public mobile applications

  • Expert level experience with mobile development technologies (Swift/Objective-C for iOS, Java/Kotlin for Android, etc.); while hybrid platform development is a plus, native development experience on either iOS or Android (preferred both) is a must

  • 1+ years of recent mobile technical lead and/or mobile team lead experience or equivalent showing the ability of guiding, mentoring and developing technical professionals involved in mobile development; Direct supervisory experience is a plus.

  • Experience in integrating transaction and content APIs, analytic services, in-app messaging and push notification solutions

  • Experience in securing mobile applications including complying with standards around mobile payments

  • Applied understanding of User Experience Architecture, User-Centered Design Analysis and mobile application design. Good understanding front to back of a company's operational flow.

  • Experience in a multi-channel environment (web, mobile, agent, automated phone, etc.) and how mobile integrates into that is a plus

Technical Skills and other Attributes

  • Objective-C for iOS and/or Java for Android

  • Core networking concepts (DNS, IP, SSL/HTTPS, etc.) and caching

  • Mobile Security (static code scans, network layer penetration, etc.)

  • Mobile Payments

  • Biometric integration

  • Google Analytics and/or Adobe Analytics or similar for Mobile

  • In-App Messaging and Push Notification Platforms (Adobe Target, Swrve or similar)

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new hardware/software systems independently and adapt to a changing technical environment

  • Strong emphasis on delivering simple, readable, traceable, maintainable, performant and secure code using application patterns and data structures as appropriate to the application

  • Ability to analyze, absorb, advocate, and apply rapidly changing technologies and apply them as part of integrated solutions to business requirements.

  • Ability to establish and maintain a high level of peer trust and confidence.

  • Experience operating in a DevOps Model

  • Customer and vendor relationship management, presentation, and consulting skills

  • Ability and willingness to take direction from IT and business leaders

  • Familiar with the Agile and Waterfall development lifecycle
