Vice President of Sales

This key role will be responsible for building, leading, and supporting the Sales team throughout the Aqua-Aston portfolio.  This role will be critical in developing, driving, and executing the top line direct sales strategy to achieve revenue targets, gain market share and drive profitability. Leads by example with dynamic selling skills and a sense of urgency to strategically prospect for new business and shift market share.   Manages staff and resource deployment across market segments and optimizes use of distribution channels.  Responsible for overseeing the leadership and management of all sales activities in the centralized sales office, remote or contracted sales offices, and across all property sales teams. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the sales department team and priorities.  Ensuring that the company is highly targeted in sales efforts, prioritizing attention on generating business from customers and businesses that will achieve the higher ROI.    
  • Annually developing and setting the company’s annual sales plan strategy and budget to achieve additional market share and profitable business for the hotels.  Including the identification of marketing and promotional spend needed to drive business and achievement of revenue goals.
  • Working in concert with the Revenue Management team to set pricing for all sales-controlled market segments and maximize profitability among distribution channels.  Determine the appropriate business mix to achieve the financial goals of the properties and the collective portfolio.  Utilize knowledge of merchandising through online portals and extranets and directs the sales team about optimizing rates, inventory, and content.
  • Prepare annual sales expense budget.  Plan, manage, and evaluate all financial aspects of the sales effort across the company and optimal utilization of resources.  Oversee, the preparation of the annual plan for property sales efforts including sales trips, off-property functions, and customer entertainment. 
  • Engages and builds trusted strong relationship with hotel ownership groups.  
  • Proactively be involved in outside sales calls, conduct sales tours, and entertain clients to support the sales team’s initiatives.
  • Oversee the company’s sales force automation database program and ensure effective usage by the sales team.  Design, review, and act on reporting from the system to monitor, measure, and improve the effectiveness of sales efforts.
  • Continually assess the strengths and opportunities to improve sales team effectiveness and resource deployment.  Provide coaching, mentoring, and training.  Administer sales incentive plans in concert with the Finance and Human Resource teams.
  • Manage and direct projects as required.  Assist with due diligence, property or brand repositioning, and presentations to property owners. 
  • Actively defines, refines, and continuously improves processes, systems, and performance to foster an environment of leadership, innovation, education, and growth for the company’s sales team.
  • Stay abreast of industry, market, and customer trends.  Communicate up and across the organization anything that could significantly impact the company.  Participate in industry events and sales calls to promote the company, its brands, and the portfolio of properties.

Skills & Attributes

  • Prior experience in a multi-brand/multi-market and/or complex sales experience is required.
  • Track record of leading large sales teams working in both centralized and remote environments
  • Effective sales leadership with branded and independent properties alike.
  • Demonstrated ability to exceed established sales goals and other performance metrics.
  • The successful candidate will have highly developed analytical and negotiating skills and be highly adept at establishing and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills, both oral and written are necessary to be successful in the role.
  • Should be well organized, computer literate, and detail oriented as well as adept at managing multiple projects at the same time.
  • The ability to think creatively, be nimble and be capable of oscillating between big picture thinking and granular details with a strategic lens.
  • Knowledgeable of sales force automation programs (Delphi highly desired), property management systems, and MS Office suite.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Sales & Marketing, or related field.  MBA a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years in direct sales and sales leadership roles.
  • Minimum 6 years in a hospitality property, regional or corporate office position.  Resort and condominium property experience highly desirable.
