Position Summary


As a member of the professional staff, contributes general knowledge and skill in a discipline area (e.g., Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) to support team and/or department objectives. Generally works under close supervision or within well-established guidelines to complete routine tasks. 


Specific Job Summary


The Tax Specialist will report to the Tax Associate Director and will support the Marriott Vacations Worldwide (MVW) Indirect Tax function. The Indirect Tax Specialist will maintain current due date calendars that relate to returns, payments, audits and any other projects objectives or initiatives that are time sensitive. The Indirect Tax Specialist will initiate wire and voucher requests, assist with obtaining approvals, coordinating payment and systematically prepare any mailing document needed to make payment on time. The Indirect Tax Specialist will assist with standard compliance reporting and operating practices for property tax, sales and use tax, transient tax, business licenses and other related tax compliance as needed.  The Indirect Tax Specialist will maintain internal storage of documents to ensure all databases comply with accounting/finance controls and company retention policies. The Indirect Tax Specialist will also perform related duties and projects as assigned in support of the company’s tax reporting and compliance responsibilities.





Expected Contributions


Performs the following types of basic tasks: 

  • Payment preparation and review of work product for accuracy, completion, and coordinate approvals to ensure timeliness.
  • Oversees data entry function for all real and tangible property values and assists with pulling data to support budget, audit, and litigation document requests.
  • Maintains indirect tax compliance filing and payment calendar.
  • Ensures administrative functions of all processes are completed in timely manner.
  • Responsible for own work and contributing to team, department and/or business results

    • utilizing technical knowledge and skills to provide accurate and timely work product, and
    • establishing priorities for self in order to meet deadlines and follow company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of personal strengths and areas for improvement and acts independently to improve and increase skills and knowledge.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate.


Specific Expected Contributions


  • Prepares voucher and wire requests supporting the payment of state and local sales, use, occupancy, business licenses and property taxes.
  • Print and mail payments and any returns related to indirect tax compliance.
  • Prepares and reviews third party invoices and payments related to indirect tax function.
  • Runs various General Ledger queries from PeopleSoft, including trial balances, P&L, B/S, etc.
  • Assist with obtaining fixed asset data necessary for filing personal property tax returns.
  • Establishes, prepares, and coordinates property tax payment requests for approved bills and ensures payment is timely, well tracked, and properly documented.
  • Collects, organizes, and analyzes data (in Microsoft excel) for special reports or projects upon request.

Education

  • High school diploma/G.E.D. equivalent

Experience

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Excel.
  • At least 1 year of equivalent work experience.

Skills/Attributes

  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills; detail oriented.
  • Ability to work extended hours to meet deadlines.
