Position Summary 

As a member of the professional staff, contributes specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support team and/or department business objectives. Generally works under limited supervision, but within established guidelines, producing and analyzing more complex business information to assist in the decision making process. 

Specific Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Global Tax (GT), the Director GT contributes to Marriott Vacations Worldwide Corporation (MVWC) by performing tax compliance and provision duties for U.S. domestic entities. The Director, Tax performs research and documents state and federal tax requirements and establishes report development processes to ensure compliance with federal and state tax filing requirements as well as compliance with tax accounting rules for all domestic entities where MVWC conducts business. The Director assist with income tax audits, reviews work completed by fellow GT associates and performs duties and projects as assigned in support of managing the tax U.S. income tax compliance and provision work. 

Expected Contributions

  • Performs more complex quantitative and qualitative analysis for business processes and/or projects. Often manages small projects, business processes or parts of larger ones.
  • Responds to, solves and makes decisions on more complex/non-routine business requests with limited to moderate risk.
  • Responsible for own work and contributing to team, department and/or business results. May direct work of non-management staff.
  • Assists more senior associates in achieving business results by: 

- identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of business processes.

- providing training and technical guidance to less senior staff, where appropriate, and serving as point-of-contact for problem resolution.

- participating in setting department operating plans.  

- achieving results against budget within scope of responsibility. 

  • Demonstrates an awareness of personal strengths and areas for improvement and acts independently to improve and increase skills and knowledge.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate. 

Specific Expected Contributions  

  • Research and documents state and federal tax reporting requirements.
  • Implements and documents processes to ensure compliance with federal and state filing requirements.
  • Responds to and ensures resolution to states and federal inquiries.
  • Prepares, analyzes and reviews book to tax adjustments for estimated payments, tax provision, and income tax returns.
  • Oversees filing of income tax returns and tracking compliance to comply with both state and federal income tax regulations.
  • Analyzes and provides recommendations on financial statements of US/USVI entities regarding tax risk.
  • Assists with accounting for income tax issues related to U.S. operations.
  • Creates efficient, effective tools to report information needed for tax provision, estimated payments, audits and income tax returns.
  • Works with Enterprise Business Solutions team to automate reports and schedules where opportunities exist.
  • Documents and maintains policies and procedures for the U.S. operations.
  • Performs special projects as requested by Senior Management 

Candidate Profile 

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

  • Generally a professional position with specific knowledge in a discipline (e.g., Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology). College degree and/or relevant experience typically required.

Education

  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or Masters of Taxation preferred

Experience

  • Six plus years of experience working in corporate tax or similar tax environment
  • Experience leading and managing initiatives
  • Proven, excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point. Experience with PeopleSoft preferred.
  • Proven ability to adapt to a constantly changing, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
