Generic Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Resources, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support team and/or department business objectives. Generally, works under limited supervision, but within established guidelines, producing and analyzing more complex business information to assist in the decision-making process.

Specific Job Summary

The Sr. Manager System Engineer will support the Enterprise Technology Infrastructure & Operations globally. Reports to Director, Engineering & Operations. Oversee and manage a team of engineers to provide guidance on project objectives, timeline, execution on time sensitive deliverables. Partners with PMO and other IT Leads to identify solutions and remove barriers to deliver final objectives.

Analyzes, designs, and develops technical solutions (interfaces, performance tuning, utilities or diagnostics) to technical and business problems. Provides guidance/direction to team and may provide level 2 and 3 technical support. Serves as a subject matter expert and provides training to level 1 technicians. Design plan, timeline and develops solutions for internal and PMO sponsored projects. Performs capacity planning to predict usage trends for upcoming hardware/software needs. Makes recommendations to management for systems and supporting infrastructure purchases. Participates in assigned projects. Manage a team of Lead Systems Engineers.

  • Provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Provides Level II and Level III technical support and administration for server-based operating systems such as Windows Servers, Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers, UNIX, VMware ESX

        • Provides Level II and Level III technical support and administration services such as Apache, LVM Shell Scripting, etc.

        • Provides Level II and Level III technical scripting experience with PowerShell, Python, Ruby, and automation scripting

        • Develop, define and create best practices processes for Systems infrastructure
        • Participate in a regular on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support
        • Works with all IT teams to develop solutions and provide knowledge domain expertise
        • Designs and administers security practices to meet various regulatory and policy requirements
        • Acts as subject matter expert for all virtualization
        • Acts as subject matter expert for all server-based operating systems
        • Acts as subject matter expert for all messaging related activities
        • Acts as subject matter expert for all identity related activities
        • Resolve customer incidents and problems rapidly
        • Lead advanced troubleshooting efforts
        • Coordinate & participate service/support needs with vendors, technical support, application support, infrastructure support.
        • Follow best practices for supported technology.
        • Test and deploy security patches to identity systems to help maintain PCI, SOX and other regulatory compliance requirements.
        • Develop documentation and train Level I technicians.
        • Works within MVW change and release policies when implementing changes.
        • Maintains, analyzes and troubleshoots the various and compute infrastructure to ensure all services optimally structured to provide defined service levels for:
          • Uptime
          • Stability
          • Performance
          • Quality
        • Performs capacity planning and makes recommendations to ensure these optimum levels are achieved and sustained, and consistently improved.
        • Troubleshoots advanced problems within Active Directory, Office 365 Identity and Exchange Online.
        • Participates on projects requiring Systems Engineering solutions.
        • Develop automation scripts and custom scripts for support, monitoring and metrics gathering
        • Assess risks and recommended enhancements or alternatives
        • Perform periodic administrative maintenance on:
          • Office 365 tenant services
          • Infrastructure on-premise systems
          • Active Directory and Domain controllers
          • RHEL and Windows OS servers
          • Citrix XenApp and Remote Desktop Services platforms
          • VMware and Virtualization platform
          • Hardware Platform
        • Open, track and report on Microsoft Premier tickets
        • Other duties as assigned.

  • AA/AS technology or related degree or equivalent technical certification and experience

Experience:

  • Requires 7+ years work experience in a similar Systems engineering position
  • Requires 10+ years work experience in technical troubleshooting
  • Requires 5+ years managing a technical team.
  • Prefer VMware, Microsoft, and/or Red Hat Enterprise Linux certifications
