Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Resources, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support team and/or department objectives. Generally, works under limited supervision, but within established guidelines, monitoring the flow of work between own department and others in alignment with business strategies, selecting and developing effective managers and work teams, managing own organization through reliable systems and processes, and producing and analyzing more complex business information to assist in the decision-making process. 

Specific Job Summary (describe the nature and purpose of the position)

The Senior Manager of Safety and Security will report directly to the Director of Global Safety and Security.  Given the vast scope of this position the role will frequently work directly with other Department leaders, Resort Operations Leadership, Sales and Marketing Leadership and Risk Management.  As a member of the Safety and Security organization, this position will contribute to the highest level of safety, security and risk management knowledge and expertise through their interactions with all resorts, sales sites and/or business offices in their region. 

The Senior Manager will be specifically accountable for the inspection of resorts - ensuring compliance with all regulations and mandates, as well as the coaching/developing of Resort Safety and Security Directors and Managers in the areas of Safety, Security and Risk Management.  The position will execute brand/business service strategy/initiatives and business objectives in the most efficient manner. This includes the support and implementation of strategies across all properties in assigned regions, to ensure the success of the long-term discipline goals as well as the broader organizational interests, while developing and implementing efficiencies in a multi-unit environment.

This position is responsible for supporting all sites within the assigned brand and / or region(s).

Specific Expected Contributions

Support Global Safety & Security (GSS) Leadership

  • Develop strategic plans and operating goals in collaboration with the resort management that ensures the integration of Workers' Compensation, General Liability, Fire Life Safety and Security initiatives with other program efforts supported by corporate Risk Management.
  • Partner with the Director, GSS in drafting and implementing safety and security directives, policies, and procedures for the resorts, coordinating the implementation of safety and security standards and operating procedures for the resorts.
  • Representing corporate and the resorts in all security related matters to external stakeholders, such as Meeting and Event planners, VIP protection details, and government authorities vested with protective security and/or counter terrorism responsibilities.

Managing Safety and Security Operations

  • Responsible for short-term and long-term planning and the management of the regional safety and security operations of the resorts.
  • Developing and recommending the annual safety and security plans and objectives for the resorts and managing within those approved plans.
  • Overseeing the operations of proprietary security officers within the assigned region, assist with managing the operations of contracted security personnel.  This extends to planning and managing augmented security personnel engaged for special events on the company premises.
  • Coordinating and conducting security and safety-related investigations for the resorts. 
  • Organizing and managing special projects, events and VIP visits at the resorts.
  • Respond to and investigate all OSHA inquiries and/or alleged complaints within your region per MVW policy.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with local, state and federal law enforcement authorities.
  • Complete the Safety and Security Inspection checklist during each site visit to ensure compliance with Corporate Safety and Security management guidelines and procedures.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of emergency procedures.
  • Identify and make recommendations for minimizing physical hazards and unsafe work practices.
  • Support the implementation of and oversee action plans to monitor and control risk.
  • Identify areas of opportunities and assist with formulating action plans to maximize the potential of Safety and Security operations and the protection of company assets.
  • Ensure that complaints, disputes, and resolutions of grievances and conflicts are handled in accordance with company guidelines and customer service standards.
  • Empower managers and associates to provide excellent customer service to create a positive atmosphere for guest relations.
  • Incorporate guest safety and satisfaction as a component of departmental growth with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Use the Be Safe initiative to communicate these strategies to resort leadership and associates, to ensure Workers' Compensation and safety goals are achieved.
  • Provide direction to the Safety & Security Team to assist with the development mitigation strategies targeting frequency and severity reduction.
  • Communicates with resort management staff identifying and quantifying risks and opportunities.
  • Analyzes incident data to conduct trend analysis to prioritize focus with the development of processes to improve Fire Life Safety, Safety, Security, Workers Compensation and General Liability issues.
  • Responsible for sharing metrics with Management to measure and track safety performance as well as security initiatives implemented.
  • Complete special projects as requested.
  • Champion Be Safe and Security awareness within the region.

Business Partnering

  • Provide Safety & Security consultation to the RVP & General Manager and resort management.
  • Communicate with Corporate and Regional Management regarding sensitive and confidential information in a straightforward, timely and direct manner. Communication must be factual.
  • Assist the Fire and Life Safety Team and the below activities.
  • Partner with the Risk Management Team on the resolution of Safety and Security problems, claims management and key learnings.
  • Partner with HR, Legal, and site leaders with developing and coordinating Safety and Security training as needed.
  • Inform and/or update corporate executives, property management, peers and subordinates on relevant information in a timely manner.
  • Make decisions for complex safety and security issues, escalating to the Director GSSas appropriate and if necessary, obtain latest information from outside experts.
  • Partner with all other departments to ensure health and safety measures are followed onsite.
  • Liaise with site Finance and Resort Operations leadership on the priority of projects, based on the site’s accounting guidelines and GSS deliverables.

Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyzes information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solves problems.
  • Prepares the Global Safety and Security Program Audit.
  • Assess the results of the audit and inspection reports, and the action plan created during resorts inspection and provide further direction as required.
  • Reviews, offers solutions, and provides support for incident resolution, mitigation and promotes prevention.
  • Responsible for monitoring trends in Safety and Security industry and provide preventative measures.

Lead Safety and Security Operations Team

  • Analyze department performance and encourages improvement through ideas and initiatives.
  • Communicate the importance of safety procedures, detailing procedure codes, ensuring associate understanding of safety codes, monitoring processes and procedures related to safety.
  • Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation within/between Safety and Security and other departments.
  • Support the developmental needs of other team members; coaching, mentoring, or otherwise helping others to improve their knowledge and/or skills.
  • Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Serve as a role model to demonstrate appropriate behaviors.
  • Solicit feedback utilizing an “open door” policy and reviews satisfaction results to identify and address departmental problems or concerns.
  • Utilize interpersonal communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others; advocates sound financial/business decision making; demonstrates honesty/integrity; leads by example.

People Management

  • Direct the work of GSS associates and coordinate their activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of associate employees on the job site.
  • Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques.
  • Provides feedback to associates, supervisors, Managers and the Director, GSS in support of the team’s growth and development. 
  • Identifies associate’s development and training needs and ensures that training is obtained. 
  • Ensures proper labor relations and conditions of employment are maintained.
  • Manage and approves payroll and associates relates requests.

Training for Safety and Security across all Brands

  • Design and assist with delivery of managerial information and training to ensure effective policy compliance regarding (Be Safe/OSHA) Workers' Compensation.
  • Coaching and counseling Safety & Security site leaders to reflect MVW standards and procedures.
  • Conducting Security (MOD) training for Safety & Security staff and Security Awareness training for associates at the resorts.
  • Stay abreast of developments and issues relating to safety and security in the hospitality industry and assess training requirements.
  • Prepare safety and security related training materials to present to the GSS associates and trainers, and reviews performance.
  • Assist with establishing emergency response training objectives for GSS associates, corporate partners, resort associates and executives at various levels.
  • Ensure the quality of the training and how pertinent the training is in relation to the audience.
  • The Senior Manager will maintain training records to meet all compliance standards.  This will include records, forms, logs and electronic report and audit generating systems e.g. Rizepoint.

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Usually, a professional position with general knowledge in a discipline (i.e., Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology).  College degree and/or related experience typically.

Specific Candidate Profile (the education, experience, skills and attributes that are important for this position)


  • 6-8 years’ experience gained as a Director/Manager of Safety and Security in a Resort/Hotel setting


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Certifications / Accreditations

  • Must possess:
    • AHLA Certified Lodging Security Director (CLSD) designation.
    • ASIS Board Certified in Security Management (CPP) designation, or able to acquire within 1 year.
    • OSHA 501 certification, or able to acquire within 1 year.
  • Other Safety Management certifications an advantage.


  • Minimum of 4 years of experience gained in the Safety and Security, Risk Management, Law Enforcement or related professional area.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience with direct reports is required.  
  • Timeshare /Hospitality/lodging industry experience a plus MVW or Hyatt-specific knowledge, an advantage.


  • Strong consulting skills with proven ability to interface with senior leaders.

  • Work is performed in internal and external environments, with exposure to inclement conditions, and extreme temperatures.
  • Work involves climbing, kneeling, balancing, crouching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling and grasping. The noise level in this environment can be loud at inspection sites.
