Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes general knowledge and skill in a discipline area (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) to support team and/or department objectives.  Generally works under close supervision or within well-established guidelines to complete routine tasks. 

Specific Job Summary

The Tax Manager will report to the Associate Vice-President and will support the Marriott Vacations Worldwide (MVW) indirect tax function.  The Manager researches and documents state and local tax requirements and manages the reporting processes to ensure compliance with state and local tax sales and use, lodging, and federal information reporting requirements for all domestic where MVW conducts business.  The Manager performs an audit role by reviewing work for accuracy completed by direct reports and completes internal control processes supporting the filing of MVW’s indirect returns.  The Manager will also perform related duties and projects as assigned in support of the company’s tax reporting and compliance responsibilities.

Specific Expected Contributions (including duties and responsibilities)

  • Researches and documents federal, state and local tax and reporting requirements.
  • Implements and documents processes to ensure compliance with indirect tax reporting and filing requirements.
  • Manage response and resolution to inquiries from various jurisdictions.
  • Files tax returns and tracks compliance for all jurisdictions within the U.S. 
  • Review and coordinate payments for applicable taxes through accounts payable and EFT.
  • Review and post journal entries to be recorded and tax payments to be made.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly tax account reconciliations in compliance with MVWP-66 Policy and work with local site teams to obtain necessary reconciliations and information.
  • Collects, organizes, and analyzes data (in Microsoft excel) for special reports or projects upon request.

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

A professional position with general knowledge in a discipline (i.e., Accounting, Human Resources, and Information Resources); College degree and/or related work experience required.

Specific Candidate Profile (the education, experience, skills and attributes that are important for this position)


  • Bachelor of Finance, Accounting or related discipline
  • CPA or Master of Taxation preferred


  • 7-10 years’ experience in Tax and/or Accounting
  • At least 5 years of relevant Sales and Use Tax in a large corporate tax environment
  • Experience with either a public accounting firm or within a corporate tax department with a similar size

organization, or a combination of experience

  • Familiar with indirect software including vertex and CorpSales


  • Proven, excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point.  Experience with PeopleSoft preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills; detail oriented.
  • Ability to work extended hours to meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to adapt to a constantly changing, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
