CLS Generic Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes a high level of specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Resources, Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support department and/or function objectives. Generally, works with considerable independence, developing operating plans and related operational processes for own department in alignment with broader business objectives. Responsible for selection, supervision and development of staff in accordance with company policies and procedures.




Specific Job Summary

The Tax Associate Tax Director, International Tax is responsible for tax planning, preparation and review of all U.S. tax reporting requirements, tax compliance for international operation for Marriott Vacations Worldwide’s (“MVW”) foreign entities.  The Associate Tax Director manages a team of tax professionals and outside service providers to meet on-going business tax requirements and obligations in compliance with the tax laws and regulations, to assist with tax audits and evaluate tax planning opportunities in various jurisdictions.
 

Working Relationships

Reports to:          Vice President, Global Tax, International Tax

Supervises:        Sr Tax Analysts and Staff Analyst International

Interfaces with:   Senior Members of MVWC Finance and Accounting Department in US and abroad, leaders in MVW business departments (IT, iPSM, M&S, HR), Third Party Service providers and regulatory authorities (foreign tax auditors)

Specific Expected Contributions

U.S and International Tax Planning and Compliance

  • Identifies, provides direction and technical expertise on the development and implementation of international tax planning strategies.
  • Prepares and reviews documentation supporting the U.S. ASC 740 tax accounting implications of MVW’s foreign for the U.S. tax provision.
  • Prepares and reviews U.S. international tax filings including Forms 5471, 8865, subpart F, GILTI, FDII, BEAT, interest limitations, foreign tax credits, tax basis, etc.
  • Directs foreign tax compliance in selected jurisdictions including foreign corporate tax, withholding, and other local taxes.
  • Provides direction on tax implications of global cash repatriation through collaboration with Treasury and local market teams to optimize financial implications.
  • Manages foreign tax audits and international tax aspects of U.S. tax audits.
  • Keeps current on developments in U.S. and foreign tax law and regulations; develops tax planning, risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support U.S. and local country business initiatives by evaluating U.S. and local tax implications including income tax, indirect tax, permanent establishment risk by performing tax research, coordinating with local tax advisors and local business teams.
  • Reviews and prepares documentation to supporting the tax implications for significant international tax transactions for proposes of supporting the income tax accounting group and other financial and compliance processes.
  • Manages transfer pricing requirements including master file and jurisdictional reporting.

Management

  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with leaders within the F&A, HR, Law and other business departments within MVWC.
  • Manages a team of tax professionals to meet financial reporting, foreign and U.S. tax compliance requirements.
  • Manages outside vendors and contractors to assure effectiveness and successful results.
  • Manages the tax calendar for financial reporting and all foreign tax compliance.
  • Attracts, retains, manages, develops and motivates tax team members by providing leadership, guidance, and counseling as appropriate.
  • Ensures the enterprise’s tax planning strategies are properly applied, implemented, and documented.
  • Provides input on tax matters to operational business leads on business initiatives.

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Generally, a professional position requiring significant knowledge and experience in one or more disciplines and/or business and associate management.  College degree and/or relevant experience generally required.

Specific Candidate Profile

Education

  • Bachelor of Finance, Accounting
  • CPA or Master of Taxation preferred.

Experience

  • 8+ years of corporate tax experience with similar size organizations with minimum of four years international tax experience.
  • Strong U.S. tax technical skills including Subpart F, GILTI, FDII, Sec. 163(j), FTC limitation calculations, transfer pricing and tax research and planning.
  • Experience leading and managing large scale initiatives.
  • Three plus years in a supervisory role with demonstrated success leading and developing a functional team in a complex, service-intensive, and deadline-driven environment.
  • Proven history of consistently delivering results.
  • Timeshare, real estate development, or hospitality experience preferred.
