Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes a high level of specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Resort Operations, Sales & Marketing) area to support department and/or function objectives. Generally, works with considerable independence, developing operating plans and related operational processes for own department and monitoring the flow of work between own department and others in alignment with broader business objectives, selecting and developing effective managers and work teams, and managing own organization through reliable systems and processes.




Specific Job Summary

The Associate Director, Marketing Analytics is a member of the Global Marketing Operations team for the Marriott Vacations Worldwide brand and is responsible for developing and executing the optimal predictive modeling strategy for key stakeholders.  This role has oversight and stewardship of the modeling development, strategy, testing, implementation and execution used across direct mail, telemarketing, email, and digital marketing channels as well as multiple brands and properties.

Leveraging marketing data and analytics tools, the Associate Director of Marketing Analytics is expected to develop and produce accurate models that will drive marketing campaigns performance based on solid evidence in data and customer behavior.  We are looking for a dynamic, innovative individual with both detailed analytical and interpersonal skills to create and define an actionable modeling strategy and lead a model execution team that will produce analytics solutions for key stakeholders within the Global Marketing Operations team.

This position will report into the AVP, Market Optimization and Planning, and partners with the AVP to develop modeling strategies that will optimize marketing campaign performance across multiple lead sources, channels, properties, and brands.  Position will have autonomous ability to choose modeling techniques and data transformations that will maximize model performance.

Specific Expected Contributions

Lead Marketing Analytics Operations

  • Transform data and build customer marketing models through hands-on statistical techniques including regression, decision trees, cluster analysis, etc.
  • Use of internal and external data to analyze, mine, and transform for use in predictive models.  Design testing strategy for modeling implementation that will evaluate model performance.  Recommend ways to improve model performance.
  • Manage the following processes:
  • ensuring the accurate delivery of analytics and measurement.
  • maintaining predictive models and updating them regularly.
  • working directly with data architects and developers to integrate and automate the models.
  • balancing the interests of own group with the interests of the organization.
  • working with others to identify and remove barriers to success.
  • Track and manage the development of models throughout their lifecycle using appropriate agile methodology.
  • Provide regular reporting on the effectiveness of models and forecasts.
  • Support a variety of A/B testing and provide recommendations on the design of experiments.
  • Manage a team of associates (analysts) to provide model building support and data-based insights to all business partners.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate.

Business Partnership

  • Work with senior leaders to capture requirements and uncover any data science needs that may support key strategic initiatives.
  • Consult with internal customers (e.g., Marketing, Communications, Sales, Owner Services) to develop detailed tracking for their business initiatives and assist to ensure data quality.
  • Collaborate with internal analytics partners to share best practices on model building and identify new opportunities to test data elements that can improve model performance.
  • Partner with a variety of internal and external teams including developers, project leaders, and product owners to understand and define analytic and data science requirements within an agile environment.
  • Provide a deeper understanding of the effectiveness of various marketing campaigns to help leaders understand the most cost-efficient ways to market.
  • Work with internal and external data science providers and manage the appropriate tools needed.
  • Evangelize the use of data science within the organization and recommend new ways to apply data science across various functions.




Generic Candidate Profile

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Generally, a professional position requiring significant knowledge and experience in one or more disciplines and/or business operations as well as associate management experience. College degree and/or relevant experience generally required.

Specific Candidate Profile

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or equivalent work experience.
  • Master’s Degree or Advanced Degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Economics, Finance, Quantitative Market Research, or Business Analytics is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in Predictive Modeling and Database Marketing related work.
  • Experience in the hospitality or timeshare industry is preferred.
  • Experience with visualization software such as Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik etc. strongly preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of statistical methods, including model development, supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms, and testing methodologies. 
  • Experience in manipulating, merging, and mining large and complex data sets from diverse sources including relational databases, using SQL or other data query tools.

Skills & Attributes

  • Demonstratable understanding of open-source statistical platforms (Python, R, SAS) is required.  Must demonstrate a strong quantitative aptitude for data, as well as a passion for explaining technical issues to non-technical audiences. 
  • Proven ability and comfort working in an agile, fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent analytical skills; proven track record in modeling and application of results to marketing environment.
  • Understanding of how data is used to obtain results that tie to driving revenue, cutting costs, or solving business problems.
  • Strong knowledge of campaign management, CRM, lead management systems and tools.
  • Strong experience with using SQL for use in the development of business solutions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of database systems and campaign management applications including IBM/Unica, Adobe, data input, programs, reports, capability, etc.
  • Understands strength of teamwork and works well in a team environment. Able to meet deadlines without fail. Able to coordinate activities in a high-pressure environment. Must display good business judgment; make sound business decisions. Must understand importance of attention to detail; is able to work at very granular level when necessary.
  • Interacting with clients to understand business issues, develop solutions, generate insights, and present findings and recommendations based on solid data. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including data visualization; ability to interpret analytical results to technical and non-technical audiences including management. 
  • Expertise in modeling software such as Python, R and/or SAS.
