Specific Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources – Aqua-Aston Hospitality (AAH), the Area Director, Human Resources – AAH (ADHR) provides strategic and generalist HR support to AAH business discipline teams at site locations within a defined area.  The ADHR assists in building and implementing HR strategies and solutions that improve organizational effectiveness and drive business performance, integrating HR capabilities and business needs to enable successful execution of business and HR strategies to ensure consistency and compliance across all AAH locations within the area. Builds and maintains productive partnerships across the MVW HR function, with MVW Corporate HR COEs, regionally, and locally to deliver value-added HR services, programs, plans, and policies in support of achieving broader AAH business objectives and strategies. Travel to AAH properties may be required from time to time. Performs other reasonable job duties as requested.

Specific Expected Contributions



HR Team Leadership

  • Oversees, leads, manages, develops, and coaches Area HR team members to support the day-to-day HR needs of our clients, associate related matters and critical HR initiatives.
  • Evaluates the HR team for continual improvement in efficiency and effectiveness as well as provides personal and professional growth with emphasis on development opportunities when available.


Strategic HR Leadership

  • Acts as an HR Business Partner and internal HR consultant to managers and associates at all levels by providing a full range of human resources support, guidance, and direction.
  • Provides strategic and generalist Human Resources support to regional and site management teams.
  • Manages the implementation of organizational restructuring plans and prepares and refines job descriptions, job evaluations, severance, and temporary assignments.
  • Manages area and site HR projects and initiatives from inception to completion.
  • Identifies HR Management needs, develops, and implements strategies for addressing and resolving associate and business needs.
  • Contributes to development and execution of business priorities by providing informed viewpoints about HR operations.
  • Uses analytical tools and techniques produced by HR systems to ensure that property visits are issue-based and focused on troubleshooting.
  • Serves as key change agent for initiatives that have high associate impact.  
  • Enhances effective execution of HR business plans within across the company by facilitating communication, collaboration of efforts and sharing expertise.
  • Translates business priorities into company brand Human Resources strategies, plans and actions.
  • Coordinates and participates in talent reviews and succession planning activities.  
  • Leads implementation and sustainability of HR initiatives.
  • Fosters continuous improvements in the HR and field organizations by analyzing processes, monitoring effectiveness, and make recommendations for changes and enhancements.

HR Administration

  • Oversees posting of all necessary legal or regulatory notices related to Human Resources and Health & Safety in view by all site/location associates as required by Company policy or law.
  • Supports maintenance of associate records and files, e.g., interview documents, transfers, I-9’s, reference checks, Drug Free Workplace Policy (DFWP), applicant self-identification forms, department orientation check lists.
  • Writes office correspondence using computers.
  • Enters and locates work-related information using computers.

Talent Acquisition

  • Collaborates with the MVW Corporate Talent Acquisition (TA) Centre of Excellence (COE) and Regional TA Teams to define the best, high-level strategic approach for recruiting within the Company.
  • Drives staffing and workforce planning efforts for top talent in the Area by coordinating with Area Senior Leaders.  
  • Determines management staffing needs for openings and ensure that candidates are identified for these opportunities.
  • Assesses TA needs required to fill upcoming openings; works with internal and external resources to ensure workforce planning is aligned with needs.
  • Supports annual Talent Acquisition process to expand participation in the Internship Program.
  • Participates in the selection of Corporate VPs in collaboration with Senior business leaders.  
  • Supports management and front-line recruiting efforts by ensuring the appropriate education, training, and/or tools are provided to locations in the area in a timely and efficient manner.

New Hire Orientation

  • Facilitates the On-Boarding process within the area of operations.
  • Facilitates compliance of the I-9 verification, filing and audit process.
  • Facilitates and conducts new hire orientation sessions and is responsible for administration, scheduling, and ensuring compliance with deadlines for new hire completion.
  • Facilitates submission and tracking of new hire orientation training or related new hire training attendance to the appropriate Learning Administrator.

Associate Relations

  • Ensures effective employee communication channels, e.g., develops communications and assists with regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Reviews progressive discipline documentation for accuracy and consistency, checks for supportive documentation and is accountable for determining appropriate action.
  • Utilizes an “open door” policy to acknowledge employee problems or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Ensures associate issues are referred to a Department Manager for resolution or escalated to VP, HR - AAH.
  • Partners with MVW Corporate Work Environment COE to conduct associate accident investigations, as necessary.
  • Addresses improvement plans to mitigate issues being escalated through the Business Integrity Line and Guarantee of Fair Treatment lines.
  • Reviews progressive discipline documentation for accuracy and consistency, checks for supportive documentation and is accountable for determining appropriate action.
  • Utilizes an “open door” policy to acknowledge employee problems or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Ensures associate issues are referred to a Department Manager for resolution or escalated as appropriate.
  • Partners with Corporate Services to conduct associate accident investigations, as necessary.

Associate Events & Activities

  • Partners with MVW Associate Activities and Change Management Team in support of planning for delivery of associate events and activities.
  • Plans meeting agendas, facilitates, and hosts conference calls in preparation for planning MVW sponsored associate activities and events, e.g., Associate Appreciation Week, Bring Your Child to Work Days, Wellness Week, Veteran’s Day, etc.
  • Partners with Corporate HR team in support of delivery of specific activities and events by location.
  • Acts as a point of contact to associates for on-site associate events and activities.

Talent Management

  • Supports implementation of overall Talent Management strategy for area.
  • Ensures coordination and facilitation of new hire orientation program to generate a positive first impression for Interval associates emphasizing the importance of Company culture.
  • Uses available on-the-job training resources for associates; supervises on-going training initiatives and conducts training when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with and supports management team ensuring departmental orientation processes are in place and associates receive appropriate new hire training to successfully perform their job.
  • Supports annual Talent Management programs for Company, e.g., Internship Program.
  • Communicates performance expectations in accordance with job descriptions for each position.
  • Reviews Associate Engagement Survey scores for all teams within a discipline, provides analysis, addresses improvement plans to mitigate issues.
  • Leads planning, evaluation, resourcing, and follow-up of engagement survey related activities in collaboration with the appropriate business and discipline partners.
  • Supports development of improvement plans for sites and departments that fail to meet minimum standards in any portion of the lifecycle and/or the associated metrics.

Compensation

  • Partners with VP, HR AAH and MVW Compensation COE to perform compensation analyses, develop market-based compensation plans, and implement compensation and incentive plans designed to attract, engage, and retain associates in support of achieving business goals and objectives.
  • Partners with Compensation COE to plan for and implement updates to annual wage and incentive planning process for locations within the region.
  • Manages internal pay equity in support of the Talent Acquisition process and in support of annual merit increase review process.
  • Manages external pay equity by performing job analyses, writing job descriptions, and partnering with the MVW Compensation COE to market price and determine FLSA status of jobs.
  • Partners with MVW Compensation COEs to implement annual compensation programs, e.g., merit, bonus, and stock awards.
  • Understands and responds to associate concerns regarding employment agreements, contracts, commission schedules, and compensation plans.

Payroll

  • Supports Time & Attendance process for managers and associates.
  • Provides Time & Attendance guidance to managers and associates to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local Wage and Hour regulations. 

Benefits

  • Provides benefits administration support including assisting associates with enrollment in benefits.
  • Ensures benefits materials and posters are displayed in support of the open enrollment period.
  • Supports Service Anniversary Award distribution process for respective disciplines.

HRIS & Reporting

  • Identifies HRIS data errors, confirms data correction alignment, submits requests to update data to MVW HRIS team, confirm completion and accuracy in Workday, and communicate updates to impacted associates as appropriate.
  • Partners with HRBPs and MVW HRIS team to generate Human Resources data reports as necessary.
  • Partners with MVW HRIS team to generate Talent Acquisition reports as necessary.

Managing Legal and HR Compliance Practices

  • Interprets and effectively communicates HR policies and procedures to all levels of associates.
  • Ensures associate files contain required employment paperwork, proper performance management and compensation documentation, are properly maintained and secured for the required length of time.
  • Ensures compliance with procedure for accessing, reviewing, and auditing associates’ files and ensure compliance with the Privacy Act.
  • Ensures medical records are maintained in a separate, secure, and confidential medical file.
  • Oversees selection/non-selection and offers processes to ensure proper procedures are followed, e.g., valid reasons for selection/non-selection and applicants receive status notifications.
  • Manages I-9 verification, filing and audit processes.
  • Remains current with labor legislation, court decisions, and government regulations to advise business leaders.

Unemployment Insurance/ Workers’ Compensation Claims Management

  • In partnership with MVW’s Risk Management Team, acts as a consultant with managers and associates in regard to Workers’ Compensation activities.
  • Communicates with Workers Compensation carrier representatives on with respect to local Workers Compensation cases.
  • Assists in preparing documentation for employment related hearings as necessary.
  • Prepares and consults with site management representatives for attendance at hearings and attend as necessary.

Specific Candidate Profile

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or similar discipline or equivalent related experience.
  • PHR or SHRM–CP certification preferred.
     

Experience

  • At least seven years of progressive HR Generalist experience in a management role.
  • Experience managing a team.
  • Experience in a multi-unit and/or multi-state environment preferred.
  • Experience in Hotel Management, Vacation Ownership, Condominium Management, Hospitality preferred.
  • Experience in a matrix structured organization preferred.

  • Possesses strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks developing and using systems to organize and keep track of information.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of human resources management. Evaluates and remains current of business trends and HR trends to modify strategies.
  • Knowledge of information technology, including hardware and software applications, used in the Human Resources function. Workday experience is preferred.
